As I drove home Monday night, I drove the whole way under the speed limit – amazing.  It was partially because of the fresh snow, but it was also because it was just one of those times  when one slows down to try to take in what has happened.  My thoughts were all over the place.  It had been an incredible 30-something hours.  Mom had just gone from the brink of death to, at least outwardly, seeming almost normal.  Incredible.

So what’s going on?  What’s happening?

Was it getting mom to the emergency room when they did the critical thing?  Or was it God providing the right people to be available at the right time to take her to the emergency room?

Is it having expert medical care?  Or is it having a God who puts in place that which will be needed at the time of need?

Is it prayer?  What role do the hundreds of prayers prayed and being prayed on her behalf play in this?

Mom’s amazing recovery in just 24 hours is not, ultimately, because of what any one has done, but because of God.  And if it is ultimately of God and prayer is our access to God, then prayer is our ultimate work.  Prayer trumps everything because it is to the God of everything. There is nothing that he does not control. He is all powerful, with as much emphasis on the all as on the powerful. There is not a heart he cannot repair. There is not a bleeding he cannot stop. There is also not a bleeding that can be stopped if he chooses to not stop it.

He can control every decision doctors make both the right decisions and the bad ones. And prayer, God says, can cause even God to change his mind.

And how are we to pray? By pounding at his door all day and all night until he opens the door.   Why the wait to open the door?  It’s God’s choice, but he also knows man better than man.  We appreciate more that which we have sought more.  Worth is determined by what one is willing to give in exchange for it.

There is nothing that will or can cure mom like God. Prayer is the most incredible tool in all the universe. Prayer accesses all the power of the one who created everything of power from the nuclear to the universe’s black holes.

I think mom has a very good doctor, but she only has him by the grace of God who created him and gave him the gifts of medical competency. And in this, if God chooses, all the doctor has to do is make one miscalculation and its over. Or God can show him the fine line to walk that will heal mom.

So why send out requests for prayer to people who have never even met mom? Why bother them? To better bother God – the one with all the power to open the door to more life on this earth. There is something beautiful about bothering God, when believers across the globe come before the Almighty all with the same request – fix her broken heart. It becomes such that if he deems it good, and best, all he has to say is “Let it be” and it will be.

These past 30 some hours have seen an incredible number of prayers from an incredible number of people knocking on God’s door. God has been bothered. He has opened the door more than once in the last day and a half. When I went into mom’s room last night and saw how amazing she was doing just 24 hours after she barely escaped death, one cannot but thank God …and ask again for those who pray to continue to pray.

The tests confirmed mom’s heart has been damaged by the heart attack. Her blood tests are indicating more problems. She is very susceptible to bleeding. Things are still fragile, but if the peoplekeep knocking, maybe God will open some more doors.  It’s where our best hope lies.

Thanks to all …and to the God who is all
