There is a thing that is hard to explain about medical problems:  the blessings.  And now, I find, there are also awards!

A couple weeks ago I wrote a letter to two friends who found themselves dealing with a cancer diagnosis.  I wrote what I felt and know.

That evening I came upon a writing contest.  I ruled it out when I saw the deadline – the next morning.  Then I saw the topic – Encouragement (between Christians).  Hmmm…  had I just not written that?  I had never entered a writing contest.  I was curious. So I entered it.

Well, it took second place (out of 42) in its category.

This is some GREAT writing. It’s the total package, voice, style, message, word choice, the real deal. Superb title and extended metaphor.

This piece is filled with wonderfully written words of encouragement.

“Nothing’s changed. Cancer cannot shorten life. Your life’s length is the same as it was before the diagnosis.”
Profound, beautiful, true statement…food for much thought…thank you…

Wonderful writing. I love this head on approach to a challenge. You presented it with just enough softness to make it easy to accept, making it potentially very effective.
